SAGAR AGRICULTURAL POLYTECHNIC
Sagar Agricultural Polytechnic (SAP) was established in 2011 and offers two-year Diploma in Agriculture and is affiliated to Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University, Hyderabad.
Diploma in Agriculture
SAP offers a two year Diploma in Agriculture course to the students who join here after 10th class. As of now, the admissions are through counseling by the university and candidates will be selected based on 10th class merit. However, from the next academic year i.e 2020-21, University has decided to select the students based on score they achieve in Polycet entrance conducted by state government. Annual intake is 60 (co-education) and at present, the medium of instruction is Telugu. Semester system is being followed and there are 4 semesters in total. Hostel facility is available for girls and boys.
Curriculum and Pedagogy
Students will be taught basic aspects of agriculture like crop production techniques, plant protection, crop economics, accompanying with hands on practical working in the field. Every student will gain experience growing two crops in their second year wherein they will get involved in all field operations from land preparation to harvesting.
Prospects after Completion of the course
After this course, they will be absorbed in private agriculture industry and some students become agri entrepreneurs. They are eligible for AEO (Agricultural Extension Officers) positions in the state government. They are eligible to write AGRICET examination conducted by the university and secure admission in B. Sc. Agriculture in the University. However, the students are not eligible for joining in regular degree as this course is not equivalent to Intermediate.
The students can become entrepreneurs after the course by attending certain trainings by private or government institutions.
There are some agricultural colleges that are recognized by UGC (Non-ICAR funded universities or institutions) in which these students are allowed to take admission in B.Sc. Agriculture course immediately after this course.
